Background Check: How do I screen a tenant?

Background Check by RentPrep can be purchased to run the screening report on the prospective tenants who have submitted the Rental application online or were invited by you to apply online via our CRM or Tenant Match.

You can also add a Rental application for your prospective tenant manually and then request screening. 

To screen a potential tenant, select "Applications" section on the left side menu of your dashboard.

You will see the list of new rental applications. Press “Run Screening” for an applicant, you want to screen and choose the Background check report:

Then, select who is responsible for paying by pressing "Require from tenant" or "I'd like to pay".

In case you choose "Require from tenant" option, the system automatically fills out the form with the applicant's information from the Rental application. You will only need to check the information and click  "Send Request" button. Your potential tenant will receive an email notification that a screening report has been requested.

If you choose "I'd like to pay" option, you will need to fill out the following sections: 

Applicant information: first name, middle name, last name, date of birth, phone number, social security number, applicant's residing address.

Please note! 
All information provided in the Rental application will be filled out automatically. These sections are not shown, once all information is indicated in Rental Application.

Customer information (you): first name, last name, your address, ZIP/Postal code. 

Once all sections are filled out,  you will have to make a payment. If a credit card number was added before, it will be auto-filled. Also, you will be able to add a new credit card if necessary.

If the card wasn't added before, you will need to input data manually and press "Pay and submit" button.

The report will be completed during business hours (Mon-Thurs 9 am-7 pm EST and Fri 9 am-5 pm EST) typically within one hour of your order. If your order takes place on the weekend, it will take priority first thing Monday morning.

Once the screening report is completed, you'll receive an email notification. When the report is ready, the "view report" option appears.
